Siemens commits to new employability standard
Engineering giant commits to new quality standard designed to improve young people’s employability.
Siemens, one of the UK’s leading engineering companies, is aiming to be one of the first employers in the country to achieve Education Ready™ status – the new quality standard that recognises a business’s contribution to developing young people’s employability.
The company, which employs over 13,000 people across 80 locations, specialises in providing engineering solutions to the energy and healthcare sectors, and major city infrastructure and regeneration projects.
The company’s Manchester office is currently working to achieve the standard, and aims to have all sites accredited by the end of 2013.
Businesses who are Education Ready™ are able to work more effectively with schools to embed employability in the curriculum, maximise the potential of their school relationships, and help young people prepare for productive and fulfilling working lives.
Brenda Yearsley, the company’s School & Education Development Manager says, the decision to become Education Ready™ was driven by a desire to have greater impact from their programmes and projects:
“Over the last 10 years we have made significant investments in our school relationships, and we are immensely proud of what we have done to support the employability of young people. However, we always strive to do better. We believe that working to achieve this important standard will be the best way to improve what we do – it will make our programmes, practices and people even more effective.”
Education Ready™ is part of IEBE’s Platform for Excellence™, which comprises quality standards for all individuals and organisations who develop young people’s employability. It complements its sister award for schools – Business Ready™.
EnterpriseMouchel invests in young people’s employability
Leading engineering company commits to achieving new quality standard for developing young people’s employability.
EnterpriseMouchel Ltd, one of the UK’s leading engineering companies, is aiming to be one of the first employers in the country to achieve Education Ready™ – the new quality standard that recognises a business’s contribution to developing young people’s employability.
The company, which employs over 1,300 staff – including engineers, surveyors, and project managers - specialises in providing integrated highways network management services to the public sector. From the Transport for London (South) Contract, based in Croydon, it currently works with around 77 schools and colleges each year, across 9 London Boroughs, and is the first of its sites to apply for the standard.
As Gary Burt, Community Engagement Manager explains, the decision to become Education Ready™ was a simple one:
“At EnterpriseMouchel we’re proud of our track record in working with local schools and supporting the employability of young people. Having them better prepared for the world of work is absolutely critical to our business. We are always looking to improve what we do, and are extremely excited about the potential of this quality standard and how it can benefit our employees, our partner schools, and of course, their students.”
Managing Director Dave Wright agrees:
“As a nation, our future prosperity depends on businesses working with schools to raise students’ aspirations and ambitions. Achieving this standard will mean EnterpriseMouchel is playing its part. Our employees will be better prepared and equipped to make the most of their relationships with teachers and students. Our site in Croydon is just the start. We’re aiming for all our contracts around the country to achieve this recognised external award.”
Education Ready™ is part of IEBE’s Platform for Excellence™, which comprises quality standards for all individuals and organisations who develop young people’s employability. It complements its sister award for schools – Business Ready™.
Businesses who meet the standard are able to work more effectively with schools to embed employability in the curriculum, maximise the potential of their school relationships, and help young people prepare for productive and fulfilling working lives.
